Grade 7 students have been exploring concepts in photography and applying their knowledge by taking photos of the natural world. Below are some of the amazing photos that demonstrate students' understanding of the concept of viewpoint. Each photo shows a viewpoint of above, beneath, or side view.
As mentioned at Tuesday's Curriculum night, Queen Mary intermediate students have access to an online intermediate math program that is fully integrated with the new BC Curriculum, called Mathletics. Each student has their own individual login information and can access the program at http://ca.mathletics.com/ or, if you have an iPad, there is a Mathletics app available for free download. I have unlocked sections of Mathletics for the students to practice at home. I can monitor their progress online and, in most cases, adjust difficulty level if needed. Plus, students can practice any lesson as many times as they want, until they feel confident in their understanding.
Current available practice sections include: REVIEW Multiples, factors, and primes REVIEW Whole numbers - Add subtract REVIEW Decimals - concept (* we will be studying decimals in Nov/Dec) REVIEW Fractions - concept (*we will be studying fractions in Nov/Dec) REVIEW Perimeter & area As we work through new math concepts over the school year, I will make the corresponding Mathletics section available for home practice. Please feel free to contact me at [email protected] should you have any questions. Earlier this week, all of the Grade 7 embarked on an adventure to Ambleside beach to delve into our Central Idea, "The natural world facilitates discovery and self-expression." Students were given a scavenger hunt-type activity to complete in small groups, in which they had to explore the relationship between nature and self-expression by creating artistic pieces using natural elements found on the beach. Questions considered were: "How does nature inspire us?" and "What can we create using natural materials?" It was a terrific day for discovery and building classroom community! Below are some student photos of their creations and discoveries...
Our weekly timetable is attached. Please ensure your child has suitable footwear and clothing for PE on Thursdays and Fridays.
